About Coding Clubs
We’re just a small village coding club, but we do a lot of work! It’s an activity designed to get our brains and imaginations working together to make something digital. It may suprise you, but you can get a lot done in an hour in a classroom.
Why To Run One
Not everybody has access to a laptop, and schools have been trying to fix that. But the usual oppurtunities you would have for coding are not always available on a school laptop, and a coding club opens up for them to learn. Another reason is that when you beging programming on computers, you find out how fascinating they are and be more entitled to work with them. The final reason would be to allow children to come up with creative ideas as they will have more to work with.
How To Run One
It’s very simple to begin a coding club. If the local school agrees, you may! A date may vary from term to term, but that will be fine. Our coding club has run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in the past few years! We suggest a project across a meeting, multiple meetings, or even an entire term!
Project Ideas
Coding clubs can do many things! You can use simple programming languages, build things, or even create a website! Programming languges we have used are Scratch, Python, and terminals. We have done practical projects like Astro pi (where you create a program to run in space) and microbits. We also made websites, first individual ones, then this one! Of course, that isn’t all you can do. Your coding club is your coding club, and it’s your choice
Please do start one!
Laptops are becoming a bigger part of our daily lives, and more coding clubs allow children to learn more about it.
